About PHBR

Pointer Historic Building Restoration (PHBR) is owned and managed by Gareth Pointer. Now with over two decades of experience in the restoration of historic buildings, Gareth originally trained in the South West of the UK, where he worked for a well respected building conservation company – Carrek of Wells. He learnt the fundamentals of building conservation working on some important buildings across the South West, including:

• Glastonbury Abbey
• Berkeley Castle
• Plymouth Citadel
• The Lord Mayor’s Chapel, Bristol
• Trinity Church, Larkhall, Bath

Whilst with Carrek, Gareth gained skills and experience on a wide range of historic buildings, from large public monuments and heritage sites, through domestic properties, down to small vernacular buildings.

Castles and ecclesiastical restoration has featured heavily during Gareth’s career allowing him to gain the particular skills required for the conservation and repair of these often large, ornate buildings.

Following a move from Bristol to mid-Wales, Gareth continued to develop his knowledge and skills, working with an local restoration company. He established PHBR in 2010 in order to work on various restoration and building projects of his own.

Gareth is still very hands on and does the majority of the specialist work himself. If the project is very large, or the job requires help from other relevant trades people, Gareth works with a range of trusted people including glazing specialists, timber framers and ornamental plasterers.
